This is where CFD and FEA stop being separate disciplines and start talking to each other. This project walks you through a complete 2-way Fluid Structure Interaction simulation of a hyperelastic rubber flap deforming under a 20 m/s air flow, built entirely inside Ansys Workbench using Fluent, Transient Structural, and System Coupling. What makes this project different is the level of coupling involved. This is not a one-way load transfer where pressure gets mapped onto a structure once and forgotten. Fluent and Mechanical exchange force and displacement data every single coupling iteration, with the mesh itself deforming and remeshing in real time to keep up with the flap motion. You will set up dynamic mesh smoothing and 2.5D remeshing to handle large structural deflection without cell inversion, define the Fluid-Solid Interface that ties the two physics together, and configure System Coupling to drive the entire transient run. By the end, you will have a fully working coupled simulation and a transient animation showing exactly how the flap responds to the flow, step by step.
